Curtis Knapp, Kansas Pastor Who Said Government Should Kill Gays, Defends Statements

In all honesty what I’m about to say is no political statement or emotionally charged confession, just a serious question that constantly plagues me. How, do you pull someone out of the depths of their own ignorance in time for them to truly understand the reality of the world we live in before some type of tragedy strikes? I understand that logic and understanding are meant to play a huge role in this, but what do you do when that simply isn’t enough? When the person in question is just so venomously opposed to you’re very existence, how do you get them to realize that you are a human being just as they are and as such deserve general love and respect. This type of venom seems to surround me in the halls of my high high school, at the train station, even in places where I would expect better from people. But how do you change these types of opinions when words just aren’t enough. Honestly, I’m still very young but sadly I’m almost to the point where I’m ready to just accept the fact that humans are generally destructive creatures and sometimes can’t be changed. At the core of this comment I truly just want to know, how do you change the minds of individuals who absolutely refuse to change after you’ve taken every civil approach in the matter.

Maryland Pastor Dennis Leatherman: ‘My Flesh Kind Of Likes The Idea’ Of Killing Gays

don’t christains just make you want to puke?

Although I agree with the sentiments of this comment, this is the same type of generalization which exist beneath each of these pastors sermons. Indeed religion can have a venomous control over many bigots, but not all Christians are like this. Some truly understand Christianity’s values of love and respect without falling into the void of ignorance so many, such as these pastors, are guilty of. Personally, I don’t truly care for religion and as a young gay man myself I find myself almost ready to give up on the world. However, if we truly want to incite change we must attempt to look past our generalizations and realize (as corny as it may sound) that gay, straight, Christian, or Atheist we are all still human beings who deserve mutual love and respect.
